My Bio
I am passionate about making Tooele County the best place it can be for everyone who lives here. As a longtime resident, parent, educator, I bring both experience and perspective to strengthening public schools and a thriving community.
I know our children need a great education for our community to remain strong, and I also understand how difficult it can be to make ends meet in today’s economy. As a parent of six children, I have experienced both the joys and frustrations of the education system. Those experiences have helped me better understand the needs of students, parents, and educators alike.
I have spent 26 years teaching in various educational settings and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. My experience includes teaching in person, online, locally, and internationally. I served as a teacher and math coach in Provo School District and continue to hold a current teaching license. I remain committed to ongoing learning, with particular interests in education finance and education law.
I am currently serving my first term on the Tooele County School District Board of Education, where I am known for thoughtful research, collaboration, and advocacy for students and families. I approach challenges with the belief that we grow and improve when we work together, seek to understand issues in depth, and develop thoughtful, creative solutions.
I work closely with board members across the state to address challenges in education and develop innovative ideas that support students and schools. I was one of five board members state wide who were invited to present to the Deseret News Editorial Board. In addition to my board service, I currently work as a substitute teacher and value opportunities to stay connected with students, educators, and families.

My Key Issues
Fiscal Responsibility
I am raising a family and paying taxes in Tooele County, and I know how tight finances are. I know that in order to educate our children in a way that prepares them to contribute to society, we need to invest in education, but we also need to maximize every dollar. There have been many changes in our district in recent years that resulted in savings, but we need to do more. We have recently hired a new business administrator who has been tasked with providing budget options, and I want to get public feedback on those options as they are presented. Additionally, I will continue to research and advocate throughout the state for a better education funding structure. Tooele County has fewer large commercial taxpayers than many districts, placing more strain on homeowners while limiting school revenue. I will work with others around the state to bring forward policies that help ease this burden while continuing to fund our schools. Questions have arisen regarding My Tech High and Deseret Peak High School. While those decisions were made before I joined the board, I have researched both issues in depth and am happy to share what I have learned. I have spent many hours asking questions to gain a deep understanding of spending in the district. Student Achievement
Tooele County has historically faced academic challenges compared to many districts across the state, but in recent years we have begun to see meaningful progress in several areas. These improvements are happening because of a stronger focus on classroom practices that research shows are essential to student learning, along with the development of grade-level plans to help students build important skills. These efforts are still in the early stages, but they are already making a difference. While I am encouraged by this progress, I also know there is still important work ahead. These new initiatives require significant effort from teachers, and I want to ensure they receive the support, training, and resources they need to succeed. Teachers consistently tell us that student behavior and attendance are among the most pressing challenges affecting learning, and addressing those concerns remains a priority for me. I serve on the Teaching and Learning Committee, where I work with district leaders to develop plans grounded in educational research and informed by feedback from teachers and parents. I believe the best solutions come when we combine proven practices with the real experiences of the people closest to our students. Communication on Issues
I have done my best to ensure that everyone who comes to me with a concern receives my time and attention. Sometimes that means helping people connect with the right person. Other times, it means researching an issue so I can advocate for a good solution or listening carefully and helping explain complex issues. I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone, answering emails, and meeting with people in parks, classrooms, and other community spaces to discuss their concerns. Every person who has reached out to me has received my attention because I believe communication and trust matter. As board members, we have a responsibility to communicate carefully and accurately. Each board member represents one voice on a seven-member board, so we must be careful not to present individual opinions as official district positions. For this reason, I support strong district communication and advocate for our communications team to provide clear, informative updates for the community. At the same time, I know we can do better. Recently, we hired an outside consulting firm to evaluate how communication works with all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and community members.
